Thanks to the generosity of some lovely men:
Fantastic Imperial Stout. I love the standard Nogne Imperial Stout on draft but was let down by the bottled version – this was excellent.
Fantastic hops in this – one of the few double IPAs that has the hops to match the extra strength.
Onlt 550 bottles of this we ever made. Claims a place as one of the few barley wines I like.
There are no adequate words to describe this beer. For the first 10 minutes all I could do was smell it. It has the complexity of a whisky but without having any of the bad qualities of the recent fad of whisky aged beers. It has the taste of heaven. Seriously. This is one of the best taste sensations I have ever had in my life – I never wanted it to end. 27%. Only 12000 bottles made. 100$ a bottle. Retails for about 15,000 yen a bottle in Japan.
It’s worth it.

That sounds amazing! Do you know where I can get that around Yokohama? I just recently moved to Nokendai from Yokohama, I also just recently started attempting to homebrew myself after my best friend back in the states started and loves it but my luck hasent been very good at all. He is actually the one that found your site and told me to check it out. If you ever want to help out a fellow(want to be) homebrewer/ beer lover let me know.

Michael,
I’ll email you direct.
Regarding the beers – you can get them from Tanakaya in Mejiro. You can also get some of them online – eg in Sugaya. Check this page:

The Longshot Double I.P.A. would have been offered in 2008; but due to the worldwide hop shortage, Boston Beer Co. couldn’t obtain enough of the specific hops in the original winning entry.
If you can, please try the Longshot Weizenbock. That’s really, really good.
